Pioneering anther culture-based embryogenesis in Solanum aethiopicum L.

This study aimed to establish a compelling approach for inducing embryogenesis through in vitro anther culture Scarlet eggplant (Solanum aethiopicum L.), the most consumed and popular among indigenous vegetables on African continent. While androgenesis has been favorably employed brinjal melongena L.) breeding, there no attempt induce large germplasm of its relative, Solanum aethiopicum. In two distinct experiments, largest collection gr. (II), controls, which Adana Kemer cultivars formed embryos 7.26/100 1.15/100 respectively. obtained embryo/seedling found be diploid. Overall, this demonstrated right combinations hormones, it is possible produce diploid aethiopicum, world’s cultivated after brinjal. These findings could potentially contribute breeding eggplants enhanced genetic variation resistance.
